The Artists
The Old Reed Bed studios currently provide workspace for three ceramic artists, a jeweller and a textile artist.
Jean Lowe
Jean Lowe trained in Ceramics at Goldsmiths College, London and went on to share studio space with Kate Malone at Balls Pond Studios in Hackney. Now living on the Medway Estuary, her work is inspired by pebbles, stones and the old timbers of wrecked boats found on the shore line. She is best known for her hand-coiled ceramic 'pebbles', 'rock pools', 'creamed oyster shells' and 'standing stones'. Jean's work is fired to stoneware temperatures and is frost-resistant.

Pam Dodds
Pam Dodds studied Ceramics at Kent Institute of Art and Design, Rochester. Most of her pieces are thrown in porcelain on the wheel before being carved or torn. The formal quality of her work is emphasised by contrasting, monochromatic inner and outer surfaces decorated with a simple transparent glaze or black slip.

Olivia Schlevogt
Olivia Schlevogt’s work is characterised by strong, clear and simple shapes, softened with texture and surface detail. The geometric forms are made in gold or silver with a matt finish and yellow or white gold ornamentation. Sometimes adding Diamonds to highlight the design and including precious and semi-precious stones, Olivia creates one off pieces or small collections of characteristic design and high quality craftsmanship.
Olivia was born and grew up in Germany in a small town called Schwaebisch Gmuend, which has acquired the name “Gold and Silver town” because of its jewellery and silver-smithing history. Through this and her family of glassmakers and jewellers she was greatly influenced from an early age to become a jeweller.
Olivia spent four years as an apprentice in a well-known jewellery company in Germany before continuing her training at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Rochester.
Olivia has won several prizes for craftsmanship and design, and in 2007, she was selected to make an 18ct gold and diamond bracelet for the Modern Collection of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
