Welcome to the Old Reed Bed Studios

The Old Reed Bed Studios are situated close to the Medway Estuary on the North Kent Coast. Established in 1990 by Jean Lowe in a converted stable block in the grounds of her home, the small studios currently provide workspace for three ceramic artists.

Working in diverse styles using a variety of techniques and  materials, the resident ceramicists - Jean Lowe, Pam Dodds and Alison Swan - each find inspiration in the surrounding countryside creating sculptural forms and vessels inspired by time and tide: pebble, shell and wave forms; the ever-changing weather, wind, sunlight, cloud and shadow; flotsam and jetsam collected from the shores of Halstow Creek.
